d. Turn spring cap back 12°.
e. Turn control valve shaft and operate steering rack 2 full turns to snug it down.
f.
Return spring cap until tension is released from spring.
g. Using tool 09612-24011 or equivalent, adjust preload by gradually tightening spring cap until turning torque is 7.8-10.4 inch lbs. (.9-1.2 Nm).
h. Apply liquid sealer to locknut and rack housing contact surfaces.

Torque rack guide spring cap locknut to 51 ft. lbs. (69 Nm).

Recheck total preload, and readjust, if necessary.

Install dust cover.

Check that tube hole is not blocked with grease and install rack boots, clamps and clips. Make sure clip ends face outward.
27.
Install tie rod ends noting alignment marks. After adjusting toe-in, torque clamps nuts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
28.
Install right and left turn pressure tubes. Torque nuts to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
