CONDITION:

A wind noise/whistle is audible in the passenger compartment on certain 1983/84 Camrys at highway speeds.

POSSIBLE CAUSE:

Due to vehicle assembly tolerances, air can flow between the headlamp doors and clearance lamp assemblies and resonate through the fender cavity
(Figure 1).

Headlamp Door

REMEDY:

(1)

Remove the clearance lamp assembly.

(2)

Cut a 135 mm (5.25 in.) long strip of 19 mm (.75 in.) wide 3M Black Vinyl Foam Tape # 6370 or equivalent.

Apply the foam tape to the headlamp door surface which mates to the clearance lamp assembly (Figure 2). The tape should be installed so its edge
