Timing Belt Inspection

A.

If timing belt has signs of premature severance, check for proper installation, timing cover gasket for damage, and correct installation.

If the belt teeth are cracked or damaged, check to see if the camshaft, water pump, or oil pump is locked.

If there is noticeable wear or cracks on the belt face, check to see if there are nicks on one side of the idler pulley lock. If there is wear on only one
side of the belt, check the belt guide and the alignment of each pulley.

If there is noticeable wear on the teeth, check the timing cover gasket for damage and check for correct gasket installation. Check for foreign
materials on the pulley teeth.

Idler Pulley Inspection

19.

Inspect Idler pulley for turning smoothness. If necessary, replace the idler pulley.
