Water Pump: Service and Repair

1.

On models with coded audio anti-theft systems, refer to Technician Safety Information for code procedures.

2.

Disconnect battery ground cable and wait at least 30 seconds before beginning work.

.

Disconnect lower radiator hose from coolant inlet housing, then the coolant temperature switch connector.

4.

Remove timing belt and sprockets. Refer to Timing Belt for procedure.

5.

Remove alternator belt adjusting bar.

Remove water bypass tubes to water pump cover attaching bolts, then the three water pump attaching bolts, Fig. 28.

7.

Remove water pump and pump cover as an assembly, then remove two 0-rings and gasket.

8.

Remove water pump to water pump cover attaching bolts, then remove water pump.

9.

Reverse procedure to install. Tighten water pump bolts to specifications in sequence shown, Fig. 29. 

10.

Reset audio anti-theft system, if necessary, as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
