Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) for EGR: Description and Operation

PURPOSE

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV)  controls the regulated vacuum applied to the EGR valve. The Engine
Control Module (ECM) uses the VSV to prevent EGR operation when the engine is cold to improve driveability.

OPERATION

The VSV receives voltage whenever the ignition switch is turned on. When EGR is required, the ECM grounds the remaining terminal which
opens the VSV vacuum passage allowing vacuum to the EGR Valve.
