EGR Valve: Testing and Inspection
EGR VALVE INSPECTION
1.
Apply vacuum directly to the EGR valve with engine idling.
2.
Ensure engine runs rough or dies.
3.
If engine doesn't respond as suggested, Remove EGR valve from the engine.
4.
Check EGR pintle for carbon build-up and sticking. Use carburetor cleaner and compressed air to clean minor deposits.
5.
Check the vacuum diaphragm for leaks with a handheld vacuum pump.
4.
If a problem is found, replace the EGR valve.
5.
Inspect EGR passages to the intake and exhaust manifolds. Free passages from obstruction.
6.
Reinstall the EGR valve on the engine using a new base gasket.
