Maintenance Required Lamp/Indicator: Service and Repair

The oxygen sensor system used on these engines require inspection/testing procedures. These inspection and testing procedures are outlined under
``Computerized Engine Controls.'' A service code will indicate wether a malfunction has occurred within this system. After testing the system (the test
procedure will indicate if the oxygen sensor is at fault), the oxygen sensor must be replaced. On 3VZ-E engines only, replace oxygen sensor every
80,000 miles.

Light Reset

This light illuminates at 30,000 mile intervals. Reset switch is clipped to left kick panel or under instrument panel. Free switch, open cover and move
switch to opposite position.

2VZ-FE ENGINE

1.

With engine cold, turn crankshaft pulley and align its groove with the timing mark ``0'' of the No. 1 timing belt cover. In this position the No. 1
cylinder is at TDC of compression stroke.

Ensure intake valves on the No. 1 cylinder are loose and exhaust valves on the No. 1 cylinder are tight. If not, turn the crankshaft one complete
revolution (360°) and align the timing marks.

Using a feeler gauge, measure clearance between the valve lifter and camshaft. Record the valve clearance measurements which are not to
specification.

4.

With engine set to No. 1 cylinder at TDC compression stroke, check the following valves:

a. Both intake valves on the right hand intake camshaft No. 1 cylinder.
b. Both exhaust valves on the left hand exhaust camshaft No. 2 cylinder.
c. Both exhaust valves on the right hand exhaust camshaft No. 3 cylinder.
d. Both intake valves on the left hand intake camshaft No. 6 cylinder.

5.

Turn crankshaft 2/3 of a revolution (240°) and check the following valves:

a. Both intake valves on the left hand intake camshaft No. 2 cylinder.
b. Both intake valves on the right hand intake camshaft No. 3 cylinder.
c. Both exhaust valves on the left hand exhaust camshaft No. 4 cylinder.
d. Both exhaust valves on the right hand exhaust camshaft No. 5 cylinder.

6.

Turn crankshaft another 2/3 of a revolution (240°) and check the following valves:

a. Both exhaust valves on the right hand exhaust camshaft No. 1 cylinder.
b. Both intake valves on the left hand intake camshaft No. 4 cylinder.
c. Both intake valves on the right hand intake camshaft No. 5 cylinder.
d. Both exhaust valves on the left hand exhaust camshaft No. 6 cylinder.
