Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) for EGR: Description and Operation

PURPOSE

The EGR VSV controls when the EGR is allowed vacuum. The ECM uses to prevent EGR operation when the engine is cold for improved
driveability.

LOCATION

The VSV is mounted to a bracket near the EGR valve.

OPERATION

The solenoid receives voltage whenever the ignition switch is turned on. When EGR is required, the ECM grounds the remaining terminal which
opens the solenoid vacuum passage allowing vacuum to the EGR.
