TITLE
OIL FILTER INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS
This service bulletin is to outline the correct procedure for changing engine oil filters, to avoid possible leakage.
PROCEDURE:
1.
Remove the old oil filter using an SST or commercial filter wrench.
2.
With a clean rag, carefully wipe off the filter mounting flange on the cylinder block so that the sealing surface can be seen clearly.
3.
Carefully inspect the mounting surface for the old oil filter gasket being stuck to the block, or for any foreign material (i.e., paint, road tar,
undercoating, etc.) adhering to the surface.
4.
If the old gasket or any foreign material is noted, it must be removed completely. FAILURE TO INSURE THAT THE SEALING SURFACE IS
FREE OF ALL FOREIGN MATERIAL COULD PREVENT THE GASKET OF THE NEW OIL FILTER FROM PROPERLY SEATING AND
COULD RESULT IN LEAKAGE.
5.
Lubricate the seal of the new oil filter with clean engine oil.
6.
TIGHTEN THE FILTER WITH BOTH HANDS 3/4 TURN AFTER THE GASKET CONTACTS THE MOUNTING SURFACE OF THE
ENGINE.
7.
After adding new engine oil, start the engine and check for any oil leakage.
