Valve Body: Service and Repair
1.
Fabricate plate 4-1/2 inches x 2-1/2 inches with 1/4 inch holes drilled 1 inch from 4-1/2 inch edge and 2.67 inches (68 mm) apart. This plate is
necessary to retain accumulator pistons in place when valve body is removed.
2.
Raise and support vehicle and clean exterior of transmission.
3.
Remove drain plug and drain transmission.
4.
Remove oil pan, gasket and filler tube, and discard pan gasket.
5.
On A40D, remove oil supply tubes, prying at both ends with a suitable lever.
6.
On all models, remove oil strainer and gasket.
7.
Remove 17 valve body bolts while supporting valve body. Tag bolts for proper assembly.
8.
Lower valve body slightly and insert accumulator piston retaining plate. Secure plate with 2 pan retaining bolts tightened hand tight.
9.
Disconnect throttle cable and remove valve body.
10.
Connect throttle cable to actuating cam and align manual valve with manual lever.
11.
Secure valve body with several loosely installed retaining bolts.
12.
Remove accumulator retaining plate and install remaining valve body bolts hand tight.
13.
Torque valve body retaining bolts evenly to 70-104 inch lbs.
14.
Clean and install oil screen, using a new gasket, and torque retaining bolts to 44-52 inch lbs.
15.
On A40D, install oil supply tubes by hand.
16.
On all models, install oil pan, using a new gasket, and torque retaining bolts evenly to 35-43 inch lbs. Do not use sealer on oil pan gasket.
17.
Secure filler tube, install drain plug and torque plug to 14-16 ft. lbs.
18.
Fill transaxle to specifications and road test vehicle.
