Throttle Body: Description and Operation

PURPOSE / OPERATION 

The throttle body on this vehicle is a multi-purpose component. It's primary purpose is a close tolerance housing into which the throttle valve is
fitted, allowing for minute adjustments of the throttle valve opening for idle speed adjustment. 
Incorporated into the housing is a set of ports, precisely placed to create sources of vacuum at specific throttle valve opening angles. 
A throttle position sensor is attached to one end of the throttle valve shaft. This sensor is used to measure throttle valve opening for the engine
control module.
The Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve is attached to the bottom of the throttle body with ports placed in front of and behind the throttle valve, allowing
the IAC Valve to leak air around the throttle valve to adjust the engine's idle speed.
