Windshield Washer Relay: Testing and Inspection

1.

Inspect relay and motor operation as follows:
a. Connect battery positive lead to terminal 1 and negative to terminal 3 and motor body, Fig. 46.
b. Ensure motor operation.

Inspect motor operation, stopping at stop position, as follows:
a. Connect battery positive lead to terminal 1 and negative to both terminal 3 and motor body to start motor operation.
b. On models except 1990-93 Celica, disconnect terminal 1 to stop motor operation.
c. On 1990-93 Celica, disconnect terminal 3 to stop motor operation.
d. Connect battery positive lead to terminal 1 and negative lead to motor body.
e. Ensure motor stops running at stop position after motor operates again.

If operation is not as indicated, replace motor.

Inspect intermittent relay operation as follows:
a. Connect battery positive lead to terminal 1 and negative to terminal 2 and motor body.
b. Ensure motor operates intermittently for 9-15 seconds.
c. If operation is not as indicated, replace relay.
