Installation Hint: Torque to 8.0 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
3. Check the bearing backlash and axle hub deviation by following these steps.
a. Remove the two caliper set bolts.
Installation Hint: Torque to 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.).
b. Support the brake caliper securely.
c. Remove the disc.
d. Place a dial indicator near the center of the axle hub and check the backlash in the bearing shaft. direction. The maximum reading should be
0.08 mm (0.0031 inch). If the backlash exceeds the maximum, replace the bearing.
e. Using a dial indicator, check the deviation at the surface of the axle hub outside the hub bolt. The maximum reading should be 0.07 mm
(0.0028 inch). If the deviation exceeds the maximum, replace the axle hub.
4. Remove the drive shaft lock nut after doing the following.
a. Install the disc and caliper.
b. Remove the cotter pin and lock cap.
c. Applying the brakes, remove the nut.
Installation Hint: Torque to 216 Nm (159 ft. lbs.). See TSB DL001-98 3-6-98
d. Remove the caliper and disc.
5. Loosen the two nuts on lower side of shock absorber, do not remove the bolts.
Installation Hint: Torque to 153 Nm (113 ft. lbs.).
