Axle Bearing: Service and Repair

1.
Raise and support rear of vehicle.
2.
Disconnect driveshaft from axle shaft and position out of the way.
3.
Remove brake caliper and rotor. If equipped with drum brakes, remove brake drum and backing plate.
4.
Using a hammer and suitable chisel, remove staked portion of axle flange nut, then remove nut and washer, Fig. 1.
