Water Pump: Service and Repair
3A-C, 4A-C, 4A-GE & 4A-GEC ENGINES
1. Drain cooling system.
2. Remove radiator from vehicle, if necessary.
3. Loosen drive belts, then remove fan shroud, fluid coupling, if equipped, fan, and water pump pulley from water pump.
4. Remove bolts, water pump outlet housing and bypass line.
5. Remove bolts, water inlet housing and thermostat.
6. Remove timing belt upper cover.
7. Disconnect heater outlet hose from outlet line, then remove heater outlet line mounting bolt.
8. Remove oil level dipstick and guide.
9. Remove water pump attaching nuts and bolts, then the water pump.
10. Reverse procedure to install.
4A-LC, 4A-GEL & 4A-GELC ENGINES, COROLLA FWD
1. Drain engine coolant.
2. On models equipped with 4A-GEL and 4A-GELC engines, remove power steering drive belt.
3. On all models, remove alternator drive belt.
4. Remove water pump pulley, then the coolant inlet pipe.
5. Remove oil dipstick and tube.
6. Remove timing belt cover, then the water pump.
7. Reverse procedure to install.
