Valve Clearance: Adjustments

VALVE CLEARANCE (2ZZ-GE)

ADJUSTMENT

1. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
2. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER RH
3. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION BAR ASSEMBLY TOWER
4. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER NO.2

a. Remove the 3 bolts and nut, then remove the cylinder head cover No.2.

5. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS PROTECTOR
6. SEPARATE SUCTION HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY
7. REMOVE AIR SWITCHING VALVE ASSEMBLY
8. REMOVE FAN AND GENERATOR V BELT
9. REMOVE GENERATOR BRACKET NO.1

10. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY
11. REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY
12. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
13. SET NO.1 CYLINDER TO TDC/COMPRESSION

14. CHECK VALVE CLEARANCE

a. Check only the valves indicated.

(1) Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the valve rocker arm and camshaft.
(2) Record any out-of-specification valve clearance measurements. They will be used later to determine the required replacement adjusting

shim.

Valve clearance (Cold)

b. Turn the crankshaft 1 revolution (360°) to set the No.4 cylinder to the TDC/compression.

c. Check only the valves indicated.

(1) Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the valve rocker arm and camshaft.
(2) Record any out-of-specification valve clearance measurements. They will be used later to determine the required replacement adjusting

shim.
