1C, 1C-T & 2C-T ENGINES

1.

Rotate crankshaft until No. 1 piston is at TDC on compression stroke, then measure and record clearances for the following valves:

a. Cylinder No. 1 intake & exhaust.
b. Cylinder No. 2 intake.
c. Cylinder No. 3 exhaust

Rotate crankshaft 360° until No. 1 piston is at TDC on exhaust stroke, then measure and record clearances for the following valves:

a. Cylinder No. 2 exhaust.
b. Cylinder No. 3 intake.
c. Cylinder No. 4 intake & exhaust

If clearances recorded are not within specifications, rotate crankshaft until intake cam lobe for affected cylinder is pointing up. Shims can be
removed from both intake and exhaust valves with camshaft in this position.

Position tappets so that notch on the side of each tappet is accessible, then install tool 09248-64010 or equivalent between cam lobes, Fig. 7.

Ensure that tool is positioned to bear evenly on tappets, then compress tappets by tightening tool.

Pry adjusting shim from tappet with a small screwdriver, then remove shim with magnet, Fig. 8.

Measure thickness of shim with a suitable micrometer and record measurement.

Select replacement shim as follows:

a. If measured clearance for affected valve is greater than specified, add the difference between measured clearance and specified clearance to

the dimension measured in step 7, and select suitable replacement shim, Fig. 9.

b. If measured clearance for affected valve is less than specified, subtract the difference between measured clearance and specified clearance

from the dimension measured in step 7 and select a suitable replacement shim, Fig. 9.

Install selected replacement shim, ensuring that it is properly seated in tappet, remove service tool and recheck valve clearance.

10.

Repeat steps 3 through 9 for each cylinder where valve clearances are not within specifications.
