Corolla LE Sedan L4-1762cc 1.8L DOHC MFI (1998)
1. Measure PS vane pump rotating torque.
a. Check that the pump rotates smoothly without abnormal noise.
b. Temporarily install the vane pump pulley set nut.
c. Using a torque wrench, check the pump rotating torque.
Rotating torque: 0.3 Nm (2.4 inch lbs.) or less.
2. Remove suction port union.
a. Remove the bolt from the bracket of the union.
b. Remove the 2 union set bolts.
c. Remove the O-ring from the union.
3. Remove pressure feed No.2 tube.
Remove the union bolt and 2 gaskets.
4. Remove pressure port union.
Remove the O-ring from the union.
5. Remove flow control valve and spring.
6. Remove rear housing, wave washer and side plate.
a. Remove the 4 bolts.
b. Remove the O-ring from the housing.
c. Remove the O-ring from the plate.
7. Remove cam ring, 10 vane plates and vane pump rotor.
NOTICE: Be careful not to drop the plate.
8. Remove gasket.
9. Remove straight pins.
Using pliers, remove the 2 pins from the front housing.
10. Remove vane pump shaft with bearing.
a. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring from the front housing.
b. Wind vinyl tape on the serrated part of the vane pump shaft.
c. Using a press, press out the shaft with the bearing.
NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the oil seal lip.
INSPECTION
NOTICE: When using a vise, do not overtighten it.
