Brake Rotor/Disc: Service and Repair
Rear

Pads, Replace

1.

Raise and support vehicle and remove tire and wheel assembly.

2.

Temporarily install lug nuts to restrain brake disc.

3.

Remove caliper attaching bolts from torque plate, Fig. 25.

4.

Lift caliper up out of way and suspend it. Do not remove cylinder from main pin or disconnect brake hose.

5.

Remove brake pads, anti-squeal shims, anti-rattle springs, pad support plate and pad guide plate.

6.

Reverse procedure to install, torquing caliper attaching bolt to 14 ft. lbs.

Caliper, Replace

1.

Raise and support vehicle and remove wheel and tire assembly.

2.

Remove union bolt and two gaskets and disconnect brake hose from caliper.

3.

Disconnect parking brake cable as follows: 

a. Remove clip.
b. Pull out hole pin while pushing parking brake cable.
c. Remove retainer.
d. Remove parking brake cable from cable support bracket.

4.

Remove caliper attaching bolt and the caliper.

5.

Remove brake pads, anti-squeal shims, anti-rattle springs, pad support plate and pad guide plate.

6.

Reverse procedure to install, torquing brake hose union bolt to 22 ft. lbs.

Disc, Replace

1.

Remove caliper as outlined under "Caliper, Replace".

2.

Remove torque plate from knuckle.

3.

Remove brake disc.

4.

Reverse procedure to install, torquing torque plate attaching bolt to 43 ft. lbs.
