CLEAN TORQUE CONVERTER

If the transmission is contaminated, the torque converter and transmission cooler should be thoroughly flushed with Toyota Transmission Cleaner.

INSPECTION OF TORQUE CONVERTER

1. INSERT SST IN END OF TORQUE CONVERTER

a. Insert a turning tool in the inner race of the one-way clutch.
b. Install the stopper so that it fits in the notch of the converter hub and outer race of the one-way clutch.

SST 09350-32013 (09351-32010, 09351-32020)

2. TEST ONE-WAY CLUTCH

With the torque converter positioned upward, the clutch should lock when turned counterclockwise, and should rotate freely and smoothly
clockwise. Less than 25 kg.cm (22 in.lb, 2.5 N.m) of torque should be required to rotate the clutch.

If necessary, clean the converter and retest the clutch.

Replace the converter if the clutch still fails the test

3. MEASURE TORQUE CONVERTER SLEEVE RUNOUT

a. Temporarily mount the torque converter to the drive plate. Set up a dial indicator.

Torque: 280 kg.cm (20 ft.lb, 27 N.m)

Runout: 0.30 mm (0.0118 in.) or less
