TITLE    NUMMI COROLLA DOOR TRIM PANEL

CONDITION:

NUMMI built Corollas (STD and DLX models) produced between September 1988 and July 31, 1989 may exhibit a loose, wrinkled appearance of the
vinyl trim material on the front door in the upper area near the side view mirror (see Figure 1). In addition, the cloth backing may be visible through a slit
in the vinyl trim in this area. (NUMMI Corollas can be identified from the 17 digit V.I.N. prefix of "1NXAE92E ...").
CORRECTION:

The following tools and supplies are necessary to complete the repair of the door trim panel: (See page 3 for availability of 3M products).

3M Plastic Adhesive no. 4475

-

Phillips Screwdriver

-

Cloth handkerchief or shop towel (For removing the window regulator handle.)

PROCEDURE:

1.

Remove door window regulator handle, armrest, and inside door release handle bezel as described in the Corolla Repair Manual.

2.

Remove the door trim panel.

3.

Pull the vinyl trim material back from the steel backing plate in the upper corner of the panel. Use mineral spirits or thinner to remove the old
adhesive from the backing plate.

4.

Carefully apply a thin coat of 3M Plastic Adhesive No. 4475 to the back of the vinyl trim and the surface of the steel backing plate.

5.

Allow the adhesive to dry (30-60 sec. typical).

6.

Pull the vinyl trim firmly to eliminate the wrinkles and then immediately bond the trim to the steel backing plate. Apply firm pressure to
ensure a secure bond.

NOTE:

If the trim material slit and backing is still visible, it is recommended that the panel be replaced. Order only the U.S. production
parts listed below to ensure proper color and texture compatibility.

7.

Reinstall the door panel, armrest, inside door release handle bezel, and window regulator handle.
