(1997 COROLLA AIR BAG COMPUTER)
Toyota will initiate a Special Service Campaign to replace the air bag computer on certain 1997 model year Toyota Corolla vehicles.
Toyota has determined that the air bag computer can be affected by a severe mechanical shock. Such mechanical shock can be caused, for example, by
rapid sliding of the front seat or a sudden release of the parking brake. To affect the computer, this shock must occur within a very short time period just
afier the engine is started (ignition key in ON or ACC). If all these conditions are present, the air bags may deploy inadvertently. In the worst case, this
could result in occupant's injuries. It the SRS warning light is off, then this condition will not occur.
If you are contacted by the owner of an involved vehicle who has not yet received a notification, please verify eligibility by referring to the VIN range
and perform the necessary replacement as required.
Dealers are required by Federal Regulation to perform the necessary replacement on all vehicles ACQUIRED IN their INVENTORY prior to delivery of
the vehicle.
