Corolla Sedan 4-Door L4-1587cc 1.6L DOHC MFI (1997)
a. Using a screwdriver and a hammer, unstake the washer.
CAUTION: Avoid any impact to the steering rack.
b. Using a spanner to hold the steering rack steady, and using SST 09922 - 10010, remove the rack end.
NOTE:

Use SST 09922 - 10010 in the direction shown in the illustration.

Mark the RH and LH rack ends.
5. Remove adjusting bolt lock nut.
6. Remove adjusting bolt. Using a hexagon wrench (4 mm), remove the bolt.
7. Remove rack guide spring cover, O-ring, rack guide spring, rack guide spring spacer, rack guide and rack guide seat.
a. Remove the 2 bolts.
b. Remove the seat from the guide.
8. Remove pinion bearing adjusting screw lock nut. Using SST 09922 - 10010, remove the nut.
NOTE: Use SST 09922 - 10010 in the direction shown in the illustration.
9. Remove pinion bearing adjusting screw.
a. To prevent oil seal lip damage, wind vinyl tape on the serrated part of the steering pinion.
b. Using SST 09612 - 24014 (09616 - 10020), remove the screw.
10. Remove steering pinion with bearing.
