Turn Signal Switch: Service and Repair

1.
On models equipped with airbags, disarm airbag system as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM
DISARMING.
2.
On models less airbag, disconnect battery ground cable.
3.
On all models, remove steering wheel as outlined under STEERING SUSPENSION CHASSIS AND BODY
COMPONENTS/STEERING/STEERING WHEEL.
4.
Remove steering column upper and lower covers.
5.
Remove combination switch.
6.
Disconnect combination switch connector, then using a small screwdriver, disengage headlight and dimmer switch wiring from combination switch
connector. Note position of wires.
7.
On models with cruise control, removal of slip ring may be necessary. Remove screws, headlight and dimmer switch, then ball and spring
assembly, Fig. 6.
8.
On all models, install headlight and dimmer switch onto combination switch.
9.
Insert spring into headlight and dimmer lever, than install lever and screws onto combination switch.
10.
Position ball on the spring, and place headlight and dimmer switch lever into HI position. Install screws and clamp.
11.
Ensure switch operates smoothly in each position.
12.
Install electrical terminals into combination switch connector in the same position as they were removed.
13.
Install combination switch connector, then the steering column upper and lower covers and steering wheel.
14.
Connect battery ground cable.
