1.

Mount carrier assembly in suitable holding fixture.

2.

Loosen staked shoulder of pinion nut, hold companion flange with SST 09330-0020 and remove pinon nut and washer, Fig. 12.

3.

Using tool No. SST-09557-22021 or SST 09557-22022, remove companion flange.

4.

Using tool No. SST-09308-10010, remove oil seal.

5.

Remove oil slinger.

6.

Remove front bearing, using tool No. SST-09556-12010 for 6 in. axle and SST-09556-22010 for 6.38 and 6.7 in. rear axle.

7.

Punch matching marks on bearing caps and carrier to prevent intermixing left and right bearing caps.

Remove the following parts, Fig. 2.
a. Lock plate mounting nut (1).
b. Lock plate (2).
c. Bearing cap mounting bolt (3).
d. Bearing cap (4).
e. Adjusting nut (5).

9.

Remove differential case together with bearing cups.

10.

Take out drive pinion and spacer.

11.

Remove front and rear bearing cups with SST-09608-12020 or equivalent for 6 in. axle and tool No. SST-09608-20010 for 6.38 and 6.7 in. axle.
Tool No. SST-09608-30010 must be used for rear bearing cup on 6.7 in. axle.

12.

Remove drive pinion rear bearing with tool No. SST-09950-00010, using care not to deform the plate washer used to adjust pinion extension
amount.

13.

Remove side bearings from differential case.

14.

Remove ring gear set bolts and lock plates, then separate ring gear from case by lightly tapping outer perimeter of the ring gear with a soft faced
mallet.

15.

Disassemble 2 pinion type differential case as follows:
