Steering Angle Sensor: Testing and Inspection

On 1987-88 Cressida, proceed as follows:
a. Place steering wheel in straight ahead position.
b. Place mode select switch in ``Norm'' position.
c. Connect a suitable voltmeter to terminals I2 and I3 of TEMS computer and ground.
d. Using a sub-harness, short check connector terminals ``Tem'' and ``E2''.
e. Turn ignition switch to ON position, and ensure voltmeter needle fluctuates. If not, mode select switch, check connector circuit or TEMS
computer.
f.
Turn steering wheel 1/4 turn to the right from the straight ahead position and check that voltmeter needle, connected to terminal I3 and
ground, fluctuates and needle of other voltmeter connected to terminal I1 and ground indicates no voltage.
g. Return steering wheel to the straight ahead position, then 1/4 turn to the left. Check that the needle of the voltmeter connected to terminal I1
and ground, fluctuates and needle of other voltmeter, connected to terminal I3 and ground indicates no voltage. If not, refer to steps f through
h under 1985-86 Cressida for procedure.
