Constant Velocity Joint: Service and Repair
With Independent Rear Suspension
Removal
1.
Remove nuts securing axle shaft flange to differential.
2.
Remove nuts securing axle shaft flange to axle shaft.
3.
Remove axle shaft from vehicle.
Disassembly
1.
Prior to disassembly, ensure outboard joint slides smoothly in the thrust direction, also check inboard and outboard joints for any excessive radial
play.

Remove 4 boot clamps, Fig. 3.

Remove outboard joint large snap ring.
4.
Scribe alignment marks on outer race and axle shaft, then remove outer race. Inspect outer race end cover. If worn or damaged, replace.
5.
Using a soft faced hammer, remove outboard joint inner race by tapping the outer circumference of the race cage in the shaft axial direction, then
