Hydraulic Control Assembly - Antilock Brakes: Service and Repair

EXCEPT CELICA 4WD

1.

Remove brake fluid from actuator using a suitable tool.

2.

On Pickup and 4Runner models, remove battery.

3.

On all models, disconnect connectors from actuator.

4.

Remove brake tubes from actuator using suitable wrench.

5.

On Pickup and 4Runner models, turn steering wheel clockwise until it locks, then disconnect power steering lines from actuator.

6.

On all models, remove actuator bracket attaching bolt, then remove actuator and bracket assembly.

7.

Remove actuator mounting nuts and actuator.

8.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. On all models, except Pickup and 4Runner, torque actuator mounting nuts to 48 inch lbs.
b. On Pickup and 4Runner models, torque actuator mounting nuts to 9 ft. lbs.
c. Torque actuator bracket bolt to 21 ft. lbs.
d. Torque five brake lines to 11 ft. lbs.
e. Fill brake fluid reservoir and bleed brakes.
f.

Check for fluid leakage and proper brake operation.

CELICA 4WD

1.

Remove brake fluid from reservoir, using syringe or equivalent.

2.

Remove rear seat cushion, seat brackets and luggage compartment cover.

3.

Disconnect actuator electrical connector.

4.

Raise vehicle, then disconnect four brake lines from actuator brake line connectors.

5.

Remove actuator cover and rubber gasket, then disconnect two brake lines from actuator.

6.

Remove actuator and mounting bracket.

7.

Reverse procedure to install. Fill reservoir with brake fluid and bleed system.
