Ball Joint: Testing and Inspection
1.
Raise front of vehicle and place a 7-8 inch block under one tire.
2.
Lower vehicle until the front springs are about half-loaded. Place stands under vehicle.
3.
Chock front wheels in a straight, forward position.
4.
Using suitable lever, move lower control arm up and down to check that ball joint does not have excessive play. Maximum allowable play is .098
inch (2.5mm).
5.
Repeat procedure for opposite ball joint.
