Brake Pedal Assy: Testing and Inspection

ADJUSTMENT 

1. CHECK AND ADJUST BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT

a. Inspect brake pedal height.

Pedal height from asphalt sheet: 157.1 - 167.1 mm (6.185 - 6.579 inch) 

b. Adjust brake pedal height.

1. Remove the instrument panel finish panel subassembly lower and instrument panel insert sub-assembly lower LH.
2. Disconnect the connector from the stop light switch.
3. Loosen the stop light switch lock nut and remove the stop light switch.
4. Loosen the clevis lock nut.
5. Adjust the pedal height by turning the pedal push rod.
6. Tighten the push rod lock nut.

Torque: 26 Nm (265 kgf-cm, 19 ft. lbs.) 

7. Install the stop light switch.
8. Connect the connector to the stop light switch.
9. Push the brake pedal in 5 - 15 mm (0.20 - 0.59 inch), turn the stop light switch to lock the nut in the position where the stop light goes off.

10. After installation, push the brake pedal in 5 - 15 mm (0.20 - 0.59 inch), check that stop light lights up.
11. Install the instrument panel insert sub-assembly lower LH and instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly lower.

2. CHECK PEDAL FREE PLAY

a. Stop the engine and depress the brake pedal several times until there is no more vacuum left in the booster.
b. Push in the pedal until the beginning of the resistance is felt. Measure the distance, as shown.

Pedal freeplay: 1 - 6 mm (0.04 - 0.24 inch) 
If incorrect, check the stop light switch clearance. If the clearance is OK, then troubleshoot the brake system.
