Rear Airbag Sensor

SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM: REAR AIRBAG SENSOR: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. INSPECT REAR AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION)

(a) Perform a diagnostic system check See: Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes/DTC Check / Clear.

2. INSPECT REAR AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG HAS NOT DEPLOYED)

(a) Perform a diagnostic system check See: Testing and Inspection/Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes/DTC Check / Clear.
(b) If the quarter panel of the vehicle or the area around it is damaged, check if there is any damage to the rear airbag sensor. If there are any

defects as mentioned below, replace the rear airbag sensor with a new one:
-

Cracks, dents or chips on the sensor housing.

-

Cracks or other damage to the connector.

-

Peeling off of the label or damage to the serial number.

CAUTION: For removal and installation of the rear airbag sensor, be sure to follow the correct procedures.

3. INSPECT REAR AIRBAG SENSOR (VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED)

(a) When airbags have deployed as the result of a collision, be certain to replace all rear airbag sensors in the damaged area (anywhere in need of

repair). Furthermore, it is also necessary to replace any rear airbag sensors in undamaged areas that have registered a major collision, or which
exhibit any of the following abnormalities.

Cracks, dents or chips on the sensor housing.

Cracks or other damage to the connector.

-

Peeling off of the label or damage to the serial number.

CAUTION: For removal and installation of the rear airbag sensor, be sure to follow the correct procedures.
