Install a new adjusting shim.

Place a new adjusting shim on the valve lifter.

Using SST Valve Clearance Adjust Tool Set # 09248 - 55050 or (A) (Valve Lifter Press # 09248 - 05510), press down the valve lifter
and remove SST (B) Valve Lifter Stopper # 09248 - 06020 or equivalents.

(d) Recheck the valve clearance.

B. Rear valves of No. 6 cylinder.

(a)

Remove the distributor.

(b) Remove the camshafts.
(c)

Remove the adjusting shim with a small screwdriver.

(d) Determine the replacement adjusting shim size according to these Formula or Charts:

Using a micrometer, measure the thickness of the removed shim.

Calculate the thickness of a new shim so that the valve clearance comes within the specified value.
T = Thickness of used shim.
A = Measured valve clearance.
N = Thickness of new shim.
Intake: N = T + (A - 0.20 mm (0.008 inch))
Exhaust: N = T + (A - 0.30 mm (0.012 inch))

Select a new shim with a thickness as close as possible to the calculated value.
