The rear door stays are specific to each side. Installation of a stay on the wrong side will prevent the stays from properly holding the hatch in the
up position. Take care to install the correct stay to the correct side.
A. Clean the threaded portion on the vehicle body with a non-residue solvent.
B. Apply adhesive (Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324 Three Bond 1324 or equivalent) to the threads of the 2 bolts.
C. Install the back door upper damper stay bracket with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 7.5 N*m (77 kgf*cm, 66 in*lbf)
4. Install the back door stay assembly.
NOTICE

Avoid touching the stroke portions of the rod as much as possible to prevent foreign matter from attaching to the stroke portions. Be sure to hold
the cylinder while servicing.

Do NOT wear cotton gloves or other similar materials when handling the rod. Fibers may attach to the rod and result in gas leaks.

Do NOT apply any load to the cylinders in the horizontal direction in order to prevent the rod from being deformed.
A. Install the 2 stop rings to the back door stay assembly when replacing the back door stay assembly with a NEW one.
