Wastegate Solenoid: Description and Operation
Turbocharger And System Components
The Wastegate Actuator, located on the Turbocharger, is a positive pressure activated diaphragm pot designed to open and close the Wastegate Valve.
The actuator receives its pressure signal from the impeller outlet side of the turbo. The actuator is designed to open the the Wastegate Valve (via a rod
connected to the diaphragm), when boost pressure approaches 9.4 psi. As pressure drops, a spring in the actuator pot returns the diaphragm/rod
assembly to normal, returning full exhaust flow to the Turbocharger. The EFI Electronic Control Unit (ECU), controls the Turbocharger Pressure
Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV), allowing pressure to escape more quickly, thus improving actuator response time. The Wastegate Actuator is not
adjustable and contains no serviceable parts.
