Ball Joint: Testing and Inspection
1.
Raise and support rear of vehicle, placing wooden blocks with height of 7.09-7.87 inches under one rear wheel.
2.
Lower jack until there is approximately half a load on front coil spring.
3.
Place safety stands under vehicle.
4.
Move lower suspension arm up and down and check that ball joint has no vertical play.
5.
If vertical play is evident, replace ball joint.
6.
Remove cotter pin and nut from lower arm and, using tool 09610-55012 or suitable puller, disconnect ball joint from lower arm.
7.
Remove two bolts and the ball joint from the rear axle carrier.
8.
Flip ball joint stud back and forth five times before installing nut.
9.
Using torque wrench, turn nut continuously one turn each 2-4 seconds and take torque reading on fifth turn.
10.
If turning torque is not 9-26 inch lbs., replace ball joint.
11.
Reverse procedure to install. Torque ball joint to rear axle carrier attaching nuts to 59 ft. lbs. and the lower arm to ball joint attaching nut to 67 ft.
