Remove three upper shock absorber attaching nuts and the shock absorber. Cover driveshaft boot with cloth to prevent damage.

Install bolt and two nuts on bracket at lower portion of shock absorber shell and secure assembly in suitable vise.

9.

Remove coil spring as follows: 

a. Using tool 09727-22032 or equivalent, compress coil spring.
b. Hold octagon head of suspension support in vise.
c. Remove suspension support cover and the suspension support nut.
d. Remove suspension support, coil spring, insulator and bumper.

10.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following: 

a. Use new shock absorber.
b. Align coil spring end with lower seat hollow.
c. Torque suspension support nut to 54 ft. lbs.
d. Torque three upper shock absorber attaching nuts to 23 ft. lbs., being careful not to damage driveshaft boot.
e. Torque axle carrier attaching bolts to 105 ft. lbs. on 1985-86 models, or 166 ft. lbs. on 1987-88 models.

Torque brake hose union bolt to 22 ft. lbs.
