Auxiliary Air Valve (Idle Speed): Description and Operation

EFI System Components.

The Auxilliary Air Valve, located under the intake manifold, provides additional intake air around the throttle valve when the engine is cold.  This raises
the engine idle speed until the engine can idle normally on its own.  The Auxilliary Air Valve has a bi-metal spring that is heated electrically as well as
by engine coolant and blocks off the bypass air passage as the heating element warms the spring. Warm coolant prevents the spring from re-opening the
air passage when the ignition is turned off.
