Expansion Valve: Service and Repair

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable and discharge system refrigerant.

2.

Disconnect refrigerant lines at cooling unit, capping all openings.

3.

Remove grommets from inlet and outlet fittings.

4.

Proceed as follows:

a. Remove glove box and glove box stay.
b. Disconnect A/C switch connector and the connector connected to A/C harness.
c. Remove four attaching screws and bolt, then the cooling unit.
d. Remove four clamps and four screws securing case halves, then separate case halves and remove evaporator.
e. Pull off clamp and remove thermistor.

5.

Remove heat insulator and clamp from outlet tube.

6.

Disconnect liquid line tube from inlet fitting of expansion valve.

7.

Disconnect expansion valve from inlet fitting of evaporator.

8.

Reverse procedure to install, then evacuate the recharge system and check for leaks.

NOTE:  If evaporator is replaced, add 1.4-1.7 oz. of new refrigerant oil to compressor.
