Jack up the vehicle and support the front and rear axle housing with stands.

Note: In cold weather, the resistance of the oil in transfer may cause the front axle shaft to turn and lock.

Confirmation Of Forward Motion

1. Check lock operation.

a. Start the engine.
b. Shift into H4 and 1st gear. Then slowly release the clutch.
c. Check that both front wheels turn.
d. Shift only the transmission into neutral.
e. Stop the engine.

2. Check free operation.

a. Shift into H2 position.
b. Turn both front wheels in reverse simultaneously one or two times.
c. Check that the front propeller shaft is not turning.

Confirmation Of Reverse Motion

1. Check lock operation.

a. Start the engine.
b. Shift into H4 and reverse gear. Then slowly release the clutch.
c. Check that both front wheels turn.
d. Shift only the transmission into neutral.
e. Stop the engine.
