Wheel Hub: Service and Repair

1.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.
2.
On models equipped with ABS, remove speed sensor, Fig. 1.
3.
On 2WD models, remove brake cylinder from steering knuckle, then using suitable wire, hang cylinder aside.
4.
On 2WD models, remove brake rotor.
5.
On models equipped with 4WD, remove cotter pin and lock cap, then with brakes applied, remove locknut, then remove brake cylinder and
rotor.
6.
On all models, loosen lower shock absorber attaching nuts, but do not remove.
7.
Loosen lower ball joint attaching bolts, but do not remove.
8.
Remove tie rod end cotter pin and nut, then using tool No. 09628-10011 or equivalent, separate tie rod end from steering knuckle.
9.
Remove lower ball joint attaching bolts and separate from steering knuckle.
10.
Remove shock absorber lower attaching nuts and bolts.
11.
Remove steering knuckle and axle hub. Do not damage speed sensor rotor, oil seal and driveshaft boot.
12.
On 2WD models, remove axle hub grease cap, then suing suitable chisel and hammer, release nut caulking, then remove locknut.
13.
On 2WD models with ABS, remove speed sensor rotor. Do not scratch sensor rotor serrations.
14.
On 2WD models less ABS, remove spacer.
15.
On all models, using tool No. 09520-00031 or equivalent, remove axle hub.
16.
Using tool Nos. 09950-00020 (2WD), 09550-10012 (4WD) or 09550-0020 (4WD) or equivalents and press, remove axle hub bearing.
17.
Remove dust cover.
18.
On 4WD models, remove dust deflector, the using tool No. 09308-00010 or equivalent, remove inner oil seal.
19.
On all models, remove steering knuckle snap ring, then using tool Nos. 09223-56010 and 09316-60010 or equivalents, remove bearing.
20.
Reverse to install.
