Oil Filter: Service and Repair

WARNING:
^ Prolonged and repeated contact with mineral oil will result in the removal of natural fats from the skin, leading to dryness, irritation and

dermatitis. In addition, used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may cause skin cancer.

^ Care should be taken, therefore, when changing engine oil, to minimize the frequency and length of time your skin is exposed to used engine

oil. Protective clothing and gloves that cannot be penetrated by oil should be worn. Wash your skin thoroughly with soap and water, or use
water-less hand cleaner, to remove any used engine oil. Do not use gasoline, thinners, or solvents.

NOTE:

^ In order to preserve the environment, used oil and used oil filters must be disposed of only at designated disposal sites.
^ The engine oil auto feeder system replaces the normal amount of oil consumed and does not lengthen the period of time between oil changes, so carry

out the engine oil changes at the time prescribed.

^ If oil is poured only into the oil tank after the oil has been removed from the engine side, large quantities of oil are not immediately supplied to the

engine, so always pour oil into the engine side.

^ The engine oil level warning light operates in response to the oil level sensor installed in the oil pan, so when the engine oil level warning light is lit

up, it will not quickly go off, even if oil is added to the oil tank.

1. Drain engine oil.

(a) Remove the oil filler cap.
(b) Remove the oil drain plug and drain the oil into a container.

2. Replace oil filter.

(a) Using Special Service Tool (SST) Oil Filter Wrench # 09228-07501 or equivalent, remove the oil filter.
(b) Check and clean the oil filter installation surface.
(c) Apply clean engine oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
(d) Lightly screw the oil filter into place, and tighten it until the gasket contacts the seat.
(e) Using SST Oil Filter Wrench or equivalent, tighten it an additional 3/4 turn.

3. Refill with engine oil.

(a) Clean and install the oil drain plug with a new gasket.

Torque: 37 Nm (375 kg.cm, 27 ft. lbs.)

(b) Fill with fresh engine oil.

Oil capacity:
Drain and refill

w/ Oil filter change: 5.8 liters (6.1 US qts, 5.1 Imp. qts)
w/o Oil filter change: 5.5 liters (5.8 US qts, 4.8 Imp. qts)

Dry fill: 6.6 liters (7.0 US qts. 5.8 Imp. qts)
Engine oil reservoir: 2.0 liters (2.1 US qts, 1.8 Imp. qts)

CAUTION: 

-

When checking the oil level, the oil dipstick must be inserted so that the portion painted black faces the direction shown in the illustration.

After replacing the engine oil, push the oil change knob to reset.
