Shift Interlock: Adjustments

PARKING LOCK CABLE ADJUSTMENT 

1. Adjust parking lock cable.

a. Shift the shift lever in the P position.
b. Turn the ignition key to the LOCK position.
c. Loosen the 2 nuts and check that the slide pin strikes the cushion rubber.
d. Tighten the 2 nuts.

Torque: 5.4 N.m (48 inch lbs.) 

2. If necessary, replace interlock bracket.

a. Shift the shift lever in the L position.
b. Remove the bolt and 2 nuts, then remove the steering column assembly. 
c. Loosen the 2 nuts and remove the return spring and interlock bracket.

d. Compress the return spring, install it to the brake pedal bracket and install the interlock bracket by temporarily tightening the 2 nuts.
e. Install steering column assembly.

Adjust parking lock cable.

2. Check lock system operation.

After installing, check the following items.

Check that the shift lock cable does not interfere with the wire harness.

Check that the ignition key turns to LOCK position when the shift lever is in P position only.

Check that the brake pedal fully returns.

Check that the shift lever lock is released when the brake pedal is depressed with the ignition switch at ACC, ON or START.
