1. INSPECT STEERING RACK
a. Using a dial indicator, check the rack for runout, teeth wear and damage.
Maximum runout: 0.30 mm (0.0118 inch)
b. Check the back surface for wear and damage. If necessary, replace the steering rack.
2. CHECK CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY AND BUSHING
Using a cylinder gauge and a micrometer, measure the inside diameter of the bushing and outside diameter of the control valve assembly.
Maximum inside diameter: 28.20 mm (1.1102 inch)
Minimum outside diameter: 27.75 mm (1.0925 inch)
If necessary, replace the control valve assembly or bushing.
REPLACEMENT
NOTICE: When using a vise, do not overtighten it.
1. REPLACE LOWER BEARING OF CONTROL VALVE SHAFT
a. Using a brass bar and a hammer, tap out the lower bearing from the rack housing.
b. Coat a new bearing with molybdenum disulfide lithium base grease.
c. Install the bearing into the rack housing.
2. REPLACE OIL SEAL OF RACK HOUSING FOR CONTROL VALVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY SIDE
