Removal

SUSPENSION: FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT: REMOVAL

REMOVAL

HINT:

Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

The procedures listed below are for the LH side.

1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL
2. REMOVE FRONT SPEED SENSOR LH (for 2WD) See: Brakes and Traction Control/Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems/Wheel Speed

3. REMOVE FRONT BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH See: Brakes and Traction Control/Disc Brake System/Service and Repair/Removal

and Replacement/Front Brake/Removal

4. REMOVE FRONT DISC See: Brakes and Traction Control/Disc Brake System/Service and Repair/Overhaul/Front/Disassembly
5. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB NUT See: Wheel Hub/Service and Repair/Front Axle Hub/Removal
6. DISCONNECT FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER NO. 1 ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH See: Wheel Hub/Service and Repair/Front Axle

Hub/Removal

7. DISCONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH See: Steering/Steering Gear/Service and Repair/Removal
8. REMOVE STEERING KNUCKLE WITH AXLE HUB See: Wheel Hub/Service and Repair/Front Axle Hub/Removal
9. REMOVE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY LH

SST: 09960-20010

(a) Secure the front axle assembly in a vise between aluminum plates.

NOTE:  When using a vise, do not overtighten it.

(b) Remove the cotter pin and nut.

(c) Install SST to the front lower ball joint as shown in the illustration.

NOTE:  Check that the clearance measurement between SST and the front axle assembly is 1 mm (0.0394 in.).
HINT:  Use 2 SST of the same type.
