Steering Wheel: Service and Repair
Removal
STEERING COLUMN: STEERING WHEEL: REMOVAL
REMOVAL
CAUTION: Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS
airbag system before servicing See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Service Precautions.
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
NOTE: When disconnecting the cable some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected See: Testing and
Inspection/Programming and Relearning.
2. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Air Bag/Service and Repair/Steering

3. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Air Bag/Service and Repair/Steering

4. REMOVE STEERING PAD See: Restraint Systems/Air Bag Systems/Air Bag/Service and Repair/Steering Pad/Removal
5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
(a) Detach the cruise control main wire harness clamp from the steering wheel side.
(b) Disconnect the steering pad switch connector and cruise control main switch connector from the spiral cable.
(c) Remove the steering wheel set nut.
(d) Put matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft.
(e) Using SST, remove the steering wheel.
