Wheel Hub: Service and Repair

1.

Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.

2.

Remove speed sensor and brake hose bracket from steering knuckle.

3.

Remove brake caliper from steering knuckle and suspend out of way.

4.

Remove rotor disc, then ensure bearing play in axial direction does not exceed .002 inch.

5.

Remove cotter pin and nut from steering knuckle, then using suitable tool, disconnect tie rod end from steering gear knuckle.

6.

Remove cotter pin and nut, then using suitable tool, disconnect steering knuckle from upper suspension arm.

7.

Remove clip and nut, then using suitable tool, remove steering knuckle from the upper suspension arm, then axle hub.

8.

Using a suitable tool, remove hub bearing cap.

9.

Secure axle hub in vice, then using a hammer and chisel, loosen the staked part of the luck nut, then remove.

10.

Using a suitable tool, remove axle hub from axle bearing.

11.

Using a suitable tool, remove hub bearing inner race (outside) from axle hub.

12.

Remove dust cover retaining bolts, then the dust cover from steering knuckle.

13.

Using a screwdriver, remove outer oil seal from steering knuckle.

14.

Using snap ring pliers, remove the hole snap rings.

15.

Temporarily install hub bearing inner race (outside) to the hub bearing, then using suitable tool and hammer, remove hub bearing from steering
knuckle.

16.

Using a suitable tool, press new bearing into steering knuckle.

17.

Install the hole snap ring, then using tool 09608-32010 or equivalent, install the hub bearing inner race (outside) to the hub bearing then, using tool
09608-35014 or equivalent press the oil seal into the steering knuckle.

18.

Install disc brake dust cover.

19.

Install hub bearing inner race (inside) to the hub bearing, then using a suitable tool install axle hub to steering knuckle.

20.

Install and torque new axle hub locknut to specification, then using punch and hammer stake the locknut.

21.

Install hub bearing cap.

22.

Reverse procedure to install. Tighten attaching nuts and bolts to specifications.
