Suspension Spring ( Coil / Leaf ): Service and Repair

1.

Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.

2.

Remove speaker grille above shock absorber being replaced.

3.

On models equipped with Toyota Electronically Modulated Suspension (TEMS), remove quarter panel trim.

4.

Remove shock absorber-to-axle carrier attaching nut and bolt, Fig. 12.

5.

Working inside vehicle, remove shock absorber cap, then on models equipped with TEMS, the TEMS actuator.

6.

Remove three upper shock absorber attaching nuts, then the shock absorber and spring assembly. Install shock absorber and spring assembly in
suitable vise, positioning vise jaws at lower shock mount.

7.

Remove coil spring as follows: 

a. Using tool 09727-22032 or equivalent, compress coil spring.
b. Remove suspension support nut, then the suspension support.
c. Remove coil spring and bumper.
