Coolant Temperature Sensor / Switch HVAC: Testing and Inspection
ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SWITCH INSPECTION
1. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER
2. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
HINT: It is not necessary to drain out all coolant.
3. REMOVE SWITCH
a. Disconnect the connector.
b. Remove the switch.
4. INSPECT SWITCH CONTINUITY
a. Using an ohmmeter, check that there is no continuity between the terminals when the coolant temperature is above 100° C (212° F).
If there is continuity, replace the switch.
b. Using an ohmmeter, check that there is continuity between the terminals when the coolant temperature is below 91° C (196° F).
If there is no continuity, replace the switch.
5. INSTALL SWITCH
a. Install switch to radiator.
Torque: 7.4 N.m (75 kgf.cm, 65 in.lbf)
HINT: Lubricate a new O-ring with engine coolant and install the switch.
b. Connect the connector.
6. FILL WITH ENGINE COOLANT
7. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER
