Oil Pump: Service and Repair

1.
Remove oil pump as outlined under Removal/Installation.
2.
Remove relief valve.
3.
Measure body clearance between driven rotor and pump body.
Standard Clearance: 0.10 - 0.13 mm (.0039 - .0069 in.)
Maximum Clearance: 0.30 mm (0.0118 in.)
Replace rotor set or body if not as specified.
4.
Measure tip clearance between drive and driven rotors.
Standard Clearance: 0.11 - 0.24 mm (.0043 - .0094 in.)
Maximum Clearance: 0.35 mm (0.0138 in.)
Replace rotor set if not as specified.
5.
Using a straight edge, measure side clearance between rotor set and body.
Standard Clearance: 0.03 - 0.09 mm (.0012 - .0035 in.)
Maximum Clearance: 0.15 mm (0.0059 in.)
Replace rotor set and/or body if not as specified.
6.
Inspect relief valve for damage or wear. Coat relief valve with engine oil and ensure it falls smoothly into valve hole by its own weight. Replace
valve and/or body if not as specified.
7.
Replace crankshaft front oil seal.
a. Using a screwdriver, pry out old seal.
b. Using seal setting tool (SST 09309-37010 or equivalent) and a hammer, install new seal. Seat seal flush with pump body.
c. Apply multi-purpose grease to seal lip.
d. Install oil pump.
