Intake Air Temperature Sensor: Description and Operation

PURPOSE

The Intake Air Temperature Sensor, located inside the Volume Air Flow Meter, sends a signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM) indicating
the temperature of intake air. The ECM uses this signal to control Air/Fuel ratio to maintain optimum performance in all conditions.

OPERATION

The resistance of the thermistor decreases as the air intake temperature increases. The ECM uses this decreasing resistance to calculate the
adjustment to the length of injector opening time necessary.
